Awareness and application of modern technologies for teaching among secondary school teachers in Okrika Local government area of Rivers State, Nigeria

Abstract: Modern technology has asserted itself to have enormous relevance and benefits to global turn-around being experienced in all sectors of the economy. It, therefore, becomes alarming and raises concern if policymakers in the sector have not considered the need for the professional development of teachers in the area of awareness and application of modern technologies in teaching and learning. This study investigated the level of awareness and application of modern technologies in teaching and learning among public secondary school teachers in Okrika Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State. The analytic descriptive survey was applied and random sampling technique was used to determine the sample for the study. The study made use of three research questions and three corresponding hypotheses. A self-constructed questionnaire of twenty items on a four-point Likert scale titled Awareness and Application of Modern Technologies Questionnaire (AAMTQ) was used to elicit information from the teachers. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested using Z-test statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Based on the results, conclusions and recommendations were made.
